Week 0: Introductory Activities Part 1

MY THREE IMAGES

1. Creative piece of work

These 3 artworks form a series exploring composition, texture and colour of found objects.

The base of the first artwork was wood. Using paint, texture paste and extra pieces of cardboard and paper, I attempted to create an abstract/interpretative representation. The audience were encouraged to develop their own thoughts and opinion on the work.
The second artwork was worked on canvas. Foil was scrunched up and distorted into different textures to imitate qualities of metal. Ripped pieces of cardboard, paper, layers of paint, texture paste and brown powder were used create an overall grubby look.
The base of the third artwork was cardboard. Multiple layers of peeled, scrunched pieces of cardboard and paper were incorporated. In addition, paint and texture paste created shadow and form. A blade was used to scrape out certain sections of the surface, creating a rough texture.

This is Container Hotel located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The hotel is very interesting and unique! The containers used to construct the hotel advocates for sustainable practice in architecture, highlighting the importance of reusing materials. In addition, the bold, striking colours of the containers create a vibrant, welcoming atmosphere for its occupants. The price for staying at the hotel is also quite affordable, considering all its facilities. An interesting feature of the hotel is the big staircase in the lobby. It leads you to the top of the building, where you can view the sky and the surrounding landscape. Essentially, this great piece of architecture seems to be sustainable in multiple ways - socially and environmentally. This hotel can be found in other areas of Malaysia as well including Ipoh and Penang!

3. Original photograph of something beautiful

This picture was taken at Tokyo Disneyland on Christmas last year during the Dreamlights Electrical Parade!

I found all the floats very beautiful. They were all unique in their own way, accurately grasping the concept of each Disney character and their story. They were all designed with detail - moving, interactive lights changed colours every few seconds, alternating to different images and patterns. In this picture, you can see that the flashing lights shine brightly in the dark sky, creating a beautiful and fascinating scenery. The blue lights in particular seemed to complement the colour of the Disney castle at the back, making this image my favourite one out of all the pictures taken. It is interesting to note that this parade show started way back in 1972!
